Avery Goldstein is the David M. Knott Professor of Global Politics and International Relations in the Department of Political Science and Associate Director of the Christopher H. Browne Center for International Politics at Penn. From 2012-2019, he served as inaugural Director of Penn’s Center for the Study of Contemporary China. His research addresses international relations, security studies, and Chinese politics. Professor Goldstein is the author of Rising to the Challenge: China’s Grand Strategy and International Security (Stanford University Press, 2005) and several other books, and the editor for a number of book collections. He has been a Penn faculty member since 1985.
